I’d like to take a moment and congratulate Jordan Spieth on his impressive win at Augusta National this weekend, where the 21-year-old became golf's new hero by cruising to a Masters win with a record-tying final score of 18 under par. And while America and fans of the sport rally around his stellar performance and rightful new crowning as the "champion for the ages," I'd like to applaud the young Texan for an achievement of another kind: He nailed the victory lap polo.
Well played, Spieth. That deep blue was the perfect hue to be wearing when presented with the tournament's signature trophy—the green jacket—by former champion Bubba Watson. And while we may not all have an endorsement deal with Under Armour to help kit us out like a newly minted PGA champion, his moment can be an inspiration for all of us to up our polo-wearing game.
Which brings me to Japanese fast-fashion retail giant Uniqlo, which, along with American designer Michael Bastian, has mastered the fitted polo for the past two years. Their third spring season collaborating is no different, elevating the season's most versatile smart casual piece with punchy patterns such as vibrant rugby stripes, whimsical prints like paper airplanes, and color-block contrasting. Coincidentally, most everything goes good with green.
Uniqlo x Michael Bastian polos are available now at Uniqlo for $24.90 ($19.90 for boys). Also check out the rest of the expanded collection, 50-some pieces in total, which includes a variety of shorts, tank tops, and T-shirts.
