Djibouti Backs Military Intervention in Yemen, La Nation Reports
Djibouti supports foreign military intervention in Yemen and is prepared to help evacuate its nationals if the security situation there deteriorates, La Nation reported, citing Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf.
Djibouti began receiving refugees from Yemen on March 25, when about 495 people, including 100 members of the Lebanese community in Yemen, arrived, the Djibouti-based newspaper reported on Sunday. The country will continue to receive “multiple” flights from Yemen evacuating foreigners and Yemenis fleeing the fighting, La Nation said.
Saudi Arabia is heading a coalition of 10 countries attacking Houthi rebels in Yemen who have seized much of the country and driven President Abdurabuh Mansur Hadi out of the capital, Sana’a.
Djibouti is separated from Yemen by a 32-kilometer (20-mile) wide strait known as the Bab al-Mandab, or gate of grief, which links the Gulf of Aden to the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
