Ex-Citigroup Lawyer Elizabeth Sacksteder Joins Paul Weiss

Elizabeth Sacksteder, formerly deputy general counsel at Citigroup Inc., joined Paul, Weiss Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP as a partner in the litigation department, the law firm said.

Sacksteder will be based in New York and will focus on complex litigation and regulatory matters, the firm said in a statement. Sacksteder, a Yale Law School graduate, supervised Citigroup’s 1,800-person legal department, according to the statement.

“We are delighted to welcome Liz to our firm,” Paul Weiss Chairman Brad S. Karp said in the statement. “She and I have had the privilege of working together on a variety of high-profile litigation and regulatory matters over the past five years and I know clients will benefit from Liz’s talent, experience and judgment.”

Paul Weiss, with more than 800 lawyers and offices in New York, Beijing, London, Tokyo, Toronto and Washington traces its roots in New York to 1875 when Julius Frank and Samuel Weiss opened an office at 243 Broadway.

Mark Costiglio, a Citigroup spokesman, declined to comment on the move. The bank announced Sacksteder’s departure in an internal memo earlier this year. She joined Citigroup in 2009, Costiglio said.

Prior to Citigroup, Sacksteder was deputy general counsel of the Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. She was a litigation partner at Sidley Austin LLP in New York before going in-house, according to a profile on the website of the Legal Action Center, a law and policy non-profit where Sacksteder serves as a board member.
