Giants Call Up Three-Time All-Star Uggla to Play Second Base

July 25 (Bloomberg) -- The San Francisco Giants called up veteran second baseman Dan Uggla from the minor leagues and put him in the starting lineup for tonight’s home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Uggla, 34, a three-time All-Star, was released last week by the Atlanta Braves after hitting .162 this season. The Giants signed him to a minor-league deal four days ago.

Uggla has spent nine seasons in Major League Baseball, including five years with the Florida Marlins and four with the Braves.

The Giants placed second baseman Marco Scutaro and infielder Ehire Adrianza on the 15-day disabled list earlier today. Scutaro, who has a strained lower back, has played in only five games this season. Adrianza strained his right hamstring yesterday while running the bases in a game at Philadelphia.
