Colon Flirts With Perfect Game as MLB Mets Win 3-2 at Seattle

July 23 (Bloomberg) -- Bartolo Colon retired the first 20 batters and the New York Mets held on for a 3-2 victory at the Seattle Mariners.

Colon, 41, was seven outs from throwing the first perfect game in Mets history when Robinson Cano broke up the bid with a seventh-inning single. The Mariners then scored two off him in the eighth.

Colon (9-8) was trying to become the oldest pitcher in Major League Baseball history with a perfect game. Randy Johnson now holds that mark -- he was 40 when he threw a perfect game for the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Atlanta Braves on May 18, 2004.
