Gamesa to Supply 214 Megawatts of Wind Turbines to Brazil

Gamesa Corp. Tecnologica SA, Spain’s biggest wind turbine maker, won orders for 214 megawatts of machines with two Brazilian companies.

Cia. de Energias Renovaveis, a renewable energy provider, will receive 83 turbines with a total 166 megawatts of capacity for the Xique-Xique wind complex in the northeastern state of Bahia, Gamesa said today in a statement.

State-run power utility Eletrosul Centrais Eletricas SA ordered 24 turbines capable of generating 48 megawatts for its Cerro Chato complex in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. The turbines are scheduled for delivery this year. The project is expected to open in the second half of 2015.

Gamesa is the second largest wind turbine supplier in Brazil with a 16 percent share of the market, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. With the deals announced today, the Zamudio, Spain-based company has orders for more than 1,968 megawatts in Brazil.

Today’s contract is Gamesa’s second with Companhia de Energias Renovaveis after it agreed to supply 68 megawatts for the Xique-Xique complex. It’s Eletrosul’s first contract with Gamesa.
