July 4 (Bloomberg) -- Five-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, who retired from her doubles match with sister Venus three days ago with an illness, will play in this month’s Swedish Open, tournament organizers said.
“They have confirmed that she will participate in the Swedish Open,” which starts in 10 days, tournament director Nina Wennerstrom said in an e-mail today.
Williams appeared disorientated and was unable to serve during her second-round doubles match, from which the sisters retired trailing 3-0.
Wimbledon organizers said the 17-time Grand Slam singles champion was suffering from a viral illness.
