FLS Energy Begins Building 38 Megawatts of North Carolina Solar

FLS Energy Inc., a closely held U.S. provider of solar services, has begun building plants in North Carolina that will produce enough energy to power more than 5,000 homes.

The utility-scale projects will have capacity to generate 38 megawatts, the Asheville, North Carolina-based company said in a statement yesterday. The company plans to build and own a total of 80 megawatts in the state this year. Duke Energy Corp. has agreed to buy electricity from the solar farms under a 15-year contract.

Fifth Third Bancorp and Self-Help Credit Union assisted with project financing, according to the statement. Terms weren’t disclosed.
