Cameron Slams Barbaric Death Sentence on Sudan Christian

June 11 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said it’s “totally unacceptable” that a mother faces a death sentence in Sudan for refusing to recant her Christian faith.

Meriam Yehia Ibrahim, 27, was sentenced to death by hanging by a Sudanese court last month in a case that’s sparked global condemnation. Sudan’s government has said it doesn’t interfere in the decisions of the judiciary. Ibrahim gave birth on May 27 to a girl whom she’s caring for in prison along with her 20-month-old son.

Asked about the case in Parliament today by one of his Conservative Party lawmakers, Tony Baldry, Cameron replied: “I completely share his abhorrence about the way this case has been treated. It is absolutely barbaric.”
