June 9 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Corp., seeking to maintain its lead in the current generation of video-game consoles, said PlayStation 4 users will get an early look at Destiny, a highly anticipated action game from the creator of Halo.
A beta test version of the Bungie Inc. title will be available in July, and an even earlier alpha release goes online for the coming weekend, Sony officials said today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. Sony will offer a white version of the PS4 to be co-marketed with Destiny when the full game arrives in September.
The title, along with other exclusives like Little Big Planet 3, gives Sony exclusive material to further its battle against Microsoft Corp. for the year-end holiday season. Bungie, once part of Microsoft, became independent several years ago and publishes its games through Activision Blizzard Inc.
Sony fell 0.5 percent to 1,650 yen as of 11:11 a.m. June 10 in Tokyo, extending this year’s decline to 9.7 percent.
