June 4 (Bloomberg) -- OpenHydro Group Ltd., backed by French marine engineer DCNS SA, plans to install two tidal energy turbines off the coast of Brittany for Electricite de France SA.
OpenHydro and EDF plan to connect the two turbines to the grid from 2015 to test the long-term reliability of the technology in real sea conditions, Dublin-based OpenHydro said today in an e-mailed statement. It’s expected this will precede pre-commercial installations from 2016.
The project follows the testing of one of OpenHydro’s turbines with EDF at the same site between December and April. OpenHydro in March said it plans to install a demonstration of its technology on a commercial scale in Canada after being selected by the Nova Scotia Department of Energy.
