Putin Says Russia Will Work With Elected Ukrainian President

May 23 (Bloomberg) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said his government will work with the next president of Ukraine, even though the election won’t meet international standards.

“But let them hold it like that, at least,” Putin said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum today.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters earlier today that Russia will wait until the results of the May 25 vote and possible runoff before making a decision on recognizing the winner.

“‘We didn’t say that we definitely won’t recognize the elections,” Lavrov said. “We’ll see how they proceed.”
