May 22 (Bloomberg) -- UBS AG hired Severin Brizay from JPMorgan Chase & Co. to oversee its mergers and acquisitions team in Europe, the Middle East and Africa as Switzerland’s largest bank overhauls management of the business.
Brizay spent 14 years working on deals at JPMorgan from London and Paris, according to an employee memo obtained by Bloomberg News. His hire follows James Hartop’s decision to work directly with clients and step back from management after three years leading coverage and advisory in corporate-client solutions in the region, according to the memo written by William Vereker, head of corporate-client solutions in Europe.
Brizay will report to Vereker and build the deals business in the region, working closely with the bank’s global head of M&A, Piero Novelli, according to the memo. Its contents were confirmed by a company spokeswoman.
UBS also hired Glenn Rewick from Bank of America Corp. as a managing director in EMEA advisory focusing on health-care deals, according to the memo. Juan Monte will become head of country coverage, managing teams for Continental Europe and for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa while continuing to head corporate-client solutions in Spain. Diego Pignatelli will continue in his role as chairman of coverage and advisory.
Jonathan Rowley will become chairman of UBS’s global business-review group process while continuing as a senior M&A banker and chairman of the EMEA business-review group and the EMEA fairness-opinion committee, according to the memo.
