May 13 (Bloomberg) -- Jordan released a jailed Libyan sentenced to life for plotting to blow up Queen Alia International Airport to win freedom for its kidnapped ambassador to Libya.

Jordan and Libya signed a deal last week to transfer prisoner Mohammed Dersi to Libya in exchange for Ambassador Fawaz Aitan, who was snatched from his car in Tripoli last month, Jordan’s Minister of Political Development and Parliamentary Affairs Khaled Kalaldeh said.

“Under the deal, Dersi is to serve his sentence in Libyan prisons,” Kalaldeh said in a phone interview today. Dersi, who was sentenced to prison in 2007, arrived in Libya today, he added.

Aitan returned to Jordan today after his captors freed him, the official Petra news agency reported.
