May 8 (Bloomberg) -- Calgon Carbon Corp., the largest producer of granular activated carbon that helps purify water and clean the air, forecast second-quarter sales may be among the Pittsburgh-based company’s highest. The shares rose.
“Sales in the second quarter are typically strong, and based on April’s actual sales, as well as pending and forecasted orders, the second quarter of 2014 could be one of the best sales quarters in our company’s history,” Chief Executive Officer Randy Dearth said today in a statement.
Calgon Carbon reported first-quarter profit of $9.8 million, unchanged from a year ago, on revenue of $131.6 million that was 2.5 percent lower.
The stock gained 1.8 percent to $20.02 at the close in New York time.
