Today the U.S. released its National Climate Assessment. It was written by a team of more than 300 experts overseen by a 60-member federal advisory committee. U.S. law mandates the report every four years to review what we know about the changing climate and how to deal with it. This is the third edition.

Now, that’s all I’m going to tell you about it, because you should really see for yourself. It's a rare bird of a scientific report: easy to understand and full of concise analysis and compelling graphics and images. Few studies have ever been presented so accessibly (the Urban Institute’s analysis of the U.S. sex trade comes to mind).

The rarity of such analysis is a good thing, if you ask me, because if every report were presented like this there would be little left for journalists to chew on. But this is one case where you’re probably better off skipping the news stories and just diving straight in. Go ahead: Stop reading and click here to see for yourself.

Just don’t make a habit of it.
