April 7 (Bloomberg) -- Norwich City fired coach Chris Hughton, replacing him with under-18 team manager Neil Adams, as the Canaries stand one place above the Premier League relegation zone with five games left.

Hughton’s team lost 1-0 at home to fellow struggler West Bromwich Albion two days ago, its fourth defeat in six league games. Hughton, 55, had guided Norwich to 11th place in the top division last season.

Adams takes over with Norwich five points above 18th-placed Fulham, which it plays away on April 12. Its last four games of the season are against powerhouses Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

“These final five games will be a huge test for us and everyone must step up to the mark,” Adams, 48, told Norwich’s website.

A winger for Norwich between 1993 and 1999, Adams joined its coaching staff last year and led the team to a first F.A. Youth Cup in 30 years with a victory over Chelsea in the final.
