The African Development Bank started preparing a project appraisal to fund repairs to the Kariba Dam’s wall, Zambia’s Daily Mail reported, citing country representative Freddy Kwesiga.
The funding may be approved in May, the Lusaka-based state-owned newspaper said. The World Bank is expected to provide $75 million and the European Union is set to fund the balance of $100 million, the Daily Mail said.
The Kariba Dam spans the Zambezi river between Zambia and Zimbabwe. While there is cause for concern, engineers have the situation under control and the dam wall is not about to collapse, the Zambezi Water Authority said March 24.
