March 19 (Bloomberg) -- Marex Spectron Group Ltd., one of three brokers backing the Tankard natural gas indexes for Europe and the U.K., plans to start gas and power research this year.
The analysis will probably begin in the second half of the year and be distributed to clients including trade houses and hedge funds, Georgi Slavov, head of basic resources research group at Marex Spectron, said in an interview at the company’s office in London yesterday. His team already researches thermal coal, ferrous metals and freight, he said.
“The research is almost entirely fundamentally based and includes short-term trading analytics combined with mid- to long-term macroeconomic and supply and demand modeling and forecasting,” Slavov said.
Marex Spectron, ICAP Plc and Tullett Prebon Plc started Tankard indexes, publishing day-, weekend- and month-ahead prices for natural gas markets in Europe and the U.K. in February 2013, five months after price reporting agency ICIS reported irregular trades in the U.K. natural gas market to regulators. The three brokers handled more than 450 billion euros ($627 billion) of physically-settled natural gas forwards in 2012, according to Tankard’s website.
