Tiger Woods to Miss Arnold Palmer Invitational With Back Spasms

March 18 (Bloomberg) -- Tiger Woods will miss the Arnold Palmer Invitational on golf’s U.S. PGA Tour this week because of back spasms.

Woods tied for 25th place at the Cadillac Championship March 9 after lower back pain forced him to withdraw from the final round of the Honda Classic on March 2.

The top-ranked golfer’s withdrawal from the Orlando event comes less than a month before the Masters Tournament, which starts April 10 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Woods hasn’t won the opening major of the year since he claimed a fourth victory at the 2005 edition.

“Unfortunately, my back spasms and the pain haven’t subsided,” Woods said in a statement on his website. “It’s too early to know about the Masters, and I will continue to be evaluated and work closely with my doctors.”

Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational for a record eighth time in 2013. The tournament is due to begin March 20.
