Ukraine’s Lviv, Beijing Among Cities Going for 2022 Winter Games

March 14 (Bloomberg) -- Lviv in Ukraine, Oslo and Beijing are among five cities bidding to host the 2022 Winter Olympics after meeting today’s deadline for applications.

Almaty in Kazakhstan and Krakow also put in applications, the International Olympic Committee said today in an e-mailed statement. The cities were required to give the IOC an overview of their concepts for the Games and the document will be used for an initial technical analysis of the bids.

An IOC working group will study the files and then report to the executive board, which will decide which of the five cities will be accepted as candidate cities in July.

The IOC said it tries to provide financial and informational support to the cities because of the games size and complexity. All five cities bidding for the 2022 Olympic Games participated in the Sochi 2014 observer program last month that allows them to look at how previous hosts organized the event.

Applicant cities that advance to the final round have until January 2015 to submit in-depth blueprints of the Olympic projects. A panel selected by the IOC president will visit each city and prepare a technical risk report.
