Lagarde Says She Had ‘Productive Discussion’ With Yatsenyuk

Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund, said she had a “productive discussion” with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on steps needed to bolster the nation’s economy.

“We had a productive discussion regarding policies needed to put Ukraine on the path of sound economic governance and sustainable growth, while protecting the vulnerable in society,” Lagarde said in a statement today in Washington.

She said the IMF’s fact-finding mission to Kiev had made “good progress” in assessing Ukraine’s economic situation and will make recommendations to the fund’s management.

“We are keen to help Ukraine on its path to economic stability and prosperity,” she said. “The IMF will continue to consult with its membership and other international financial institutions on how best to support the people of Ukraine.”
