Feb. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Pier Carlo Padoan, chief economist of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, has been chosen to be Italy’s finance minister in Matteo Renzi’s government.
Renzi made the announcement after meeting with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano today and accepting the mandate to form the new leadership.
The appointment will be a return to government for Padoan, who served as economic adviser more than a decade ago to Italian Prime Ministers Massimo D’Alema and Giuliano Amato.
