Feb. 21 (Bloomberg) -- New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin received a one-year extension that ensures he’s under contract through the 2015 National Football League season.
Coughlin, the NFL’s oldest coach at 67, was entering the final year of his contract and said at the league’s scouting combine that he was confident about getting the extra season added. The Giants’ philosophy has always been to renew their head coach’s contract before the final season of his deal, team president John Mara has said.
The Giants missed the playoffs with a 7-9 record last season, their first losing campaign since 2004.
Coughlin has led the Giants to two Super Bowl titles and has a 101-78 overall record in 10 years as the team’s coach.
