Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Three people were killed when a plane crashed near Lanseria airport as it was attempting to land in northwest Johannesburg, South Africa’s biggest city.
The Beechcraft King Air twin turboprop plane crashed “out of airport,” Lanseria Marketing Manager Claudette Vianello said by phone. The accident, which occurred after 7 a.m., “hasn’t affected our normal activities,” she said.
Johannesburg-based 702 Radio earlier reported that there were 21 people on board and the crash happened amid bad weather. Vianello declined to comment on the cause or say whether the plane was authorized to land.
