Jan. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said the U.S. is watching very closely developments in countries undergoing financial stress and there are significant differences among emerging markets.
Speaking to reporters today in Disputanta, Virginia, Lew made his comments as emerging-market stocks extended their worst start to a year since 2008. The MSCI Emerging Markets Index retreated 0.2 percent to 934.41 at 12:29 p.m. in New York, bringing this year’s slide to about 7 percent.
