Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Second-seeded Victoria Azarenka was knocked out of the Australian Open in the quarterfinals today, ending her bid for a third straight title at the season’s first Grand Slam tennis tournament.
Azarenka, from Belarus, lost 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 to No. 5 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, who advanced to her first Australian Open semifinal.
Azarenka’s loss means the top three women’s seeds are all out in Melbourne. Top-seeded Serena Williams of the U.S. and No. 3 Maria Sharapova of Russia lost in the fourth round.
Radwanska’s next opponent will be No. 20 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.
