Brazil Gets Reloaded LNG Cargo From Portugal at Guanabara Bay

Jan. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Petroleo Brasileiro SA, Brazil’s importer of liquefied natural gas, received a spot cargo loaded out of storage from Portugal, ship-tracking data show.

The Excelsior, with a capacity of 138,000 cubic meters, arrived at Guanabara Bay near Rio de Janeiro today, according to transmissions captured by IHS Fairplay on Bloomberg. The tanker sailed from Portugal’s Sines LNG terminal, where it reloaded the supercooled natural gas and departed Nov. 11.

Petroleo Brasileiro, also known as Petrobras, has a floating regasification terminal at Guanabara Bay. The Sines LNG terminal, with a capacity of 5.26 billion cubic meters a year of natural gas, is managed by REN-Redes Energeticas Nacionais SA, Portugal’s power and gas grid operator.

Portugal doesn’t produce any LNG. Brazil has no long-term purchase contracts, data compiled by Bloomberg show.
