Dec. 31 (Bloomberg) -- The pound matched the highest level versus the dollar since 2011. The U.K. currency advanced 0.5 percent to $1.6578 before trading at $1.6568 at 5:06 p.m. London time. That was equal to the strongest level reached on Dec. 27.
Sterling gained 0.6 percent to 83.15 pence per euro after touching 83.10 pence, the strongest since Dec. 5.
