Dec. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Mitsui & Co. acquired 50 percent of a company that owns a 160-megawatt wind project developed by the Mexican unit of EDF Energies Nouvelles SA.
The Santo Domingo project in Oaxaca, Mexico, is in an advanced stage of construction and scheduled to start operations in April, Tokyo-based Mitsui said in a statement today.
The project will cost about 38 billion yen ($364 million), according to the statement. In February, Mitsui acquired 50 percent of the Bii Stinu wind project with 164 megawatts of capacity, also in Oaxaca, the trading company said in the statement.
Mitsui is the number two independent power producer in Mexico taking part in six gas-fired combined cycle power stations, according to the statement.
