NYC-Bound Delta 767 Blows Tire After Returning to Madrid

A Delta Air Lines Inc. Boeing 767-300ER bound for New York had to return to Madrid and blew a tire on landing after pilots received an indication of a hydraulic issue, the carrier said.

None of the 200 passengers or 11 crew members on Flight 415 to New York’s Kennedy Airport was injured when the plane came back to Madrid’s Barajas Airport, Morgan Durrant, a Delta spokesman, said in an interview. At least one tire deflated on the main landing gear as the plane touched down, Durrant said.

Delta is “looking into” reports of a missing panel on the wide-body aircraft, Durrant said. reported that photos showed a missing panel on the right wing.

Operations on one runway at Barajas were suspended for as long as 30 minutes after the incident for cleanup, a spokesman for airport operator Aena Aeropuertos SA said in an interview. All four runways now are operating normally, said the spokesman, who declined to be identified, citing company policy.
