Comscore to Confer on Privacy Suit Settlement Dec. 16

Comscore Inc., which measures website traffic, will confer Dec. 16 on settling a 2011 group lawsuit over privacy invasion before a federal judge in Chicago, according to a filing yesterday.

Plaintiffs accused the company of installing data-mining software on their computers to collect user names and passwords, credit-card numbers and prices paid for consumer goods purchased on the Internet for purposes not disclosed in its online policies, demanding as much as $1,000 per violation for each member of the class.

Comscore, based in Reston, Virginia, has denied the allegations. The company handles more than 1 trillion Internet interactions each month and markets its advertising and analytic expertise to clients, according to its website.

The case is Dunstan v. Comscore Inc., 11-cv-05807, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois (Chicago).
