Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Tokyo Electric Power Co., Japan’s largest power utility, picked three companies including Mitsubishi Electric Corp. as suppliers of smart meters it plans to install in its service area.
The Tokyo-based utility also chose GE Fuji Meter Co. and Toshiba Toko Meter Systems Co. in a Nov. 7 auction, according to a statement today.
Tepco, as the company is known, intends to install about 27 million smart meters for customers, mainly for residential use, it said last month. The winners will supply about 1.14 million meters, according to the company.
