Coal Trading Through London Brokers Jumps as Carbon, Power Drop

Over-the-counter volumes of European coal and natural gas rose in October from a year earlier while emissions trading and power shrank, according to the London Energy Brokers’ Association.

European coal trading volume more than doubled and natural gas contracts advanced 6.6 percent, the industry group said in a report sent by e-mail today. U.K. gas slipped 5.3 percent.

German electricity fell 3.3 percent, while emissions trading dropped 76 percent. Total power trading fell 0.9 percent even as U.K. contracts advanced 22 percent, the data show.
