Oct. 21 (Bloomberg) -- A Saudi water executive, Abdullah al-Alshaikh, deputy governor for planning of the kingdom’s biggest desalinator, has been named president of the International Desalination Association.
The announcement of the appointment of the state-owned Saline Water Conversion Corp. official by the IDA group that’s associated with the United Nations took place as the 2013 IDA World Congress is meeting Oct. 20-Oct. 25 in Tianjin, China.
Saudi Arabia is the largest seawater desalination country by commissioned capacity, mostly for energy industry needs and a growing population, ahead of the United Arab Emirates, according to IDA data published this month. Spain is third.
