Oct. 15 (Bloomberg) -- The largest retailer in the world also is the largest commercial solar-energy user in the U.S.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has 89 megawatts at 215 locations, according to a report today by the Solar Energy Industries Association that said installations through the second quarter rose 40 percent from a year ago to 3,380 cumulative megawatts.
Costco Wholesale Corp., at 47 megawatts, Kohl’s Corp., at about 45 megawatts, Apple Inc., at about 41 megawatts and Ikea Group, at 38 megawatts, rounded out the top five, according to data compiled by SEIA. The top 25 companies added 400 total megawatts, an increase of 33 percent from a year ago.
“These iconic brands are leading the way when it comes to efforts to reduce our nation’s dangerous dependence on foreign energy sources,” SEIA Chief Executive Officer Rhone Resch said in a statement.
