Oct. 8 (Bloomberg) -- JPMorgan Chase & Co., the largest U.S. bank, named Dana Deasy as chief information officer after Guy Chiarello departed the company earlier this year.

Deasy was previously the CIO and group vice president for global information technology, procurement and global real estate for BP Plc, the London-based oil and natural gas producer, JPMorgan said today in a statement. He takes over in December from interim CIO Mike Ashworth, who will become the New York-based lender’s deputy CIO and head of information for the consumer and community banking business, according to the statement.

Chiarello, JPMorgan’s former information head, was hired by First Data Corp. as president in July, according to a regulatory filing at the time. Atlanta-based First Data, owned by private-equity firm KKR & Co., is run by JPMorgan’s former co-Chief Operating Officer Frank Bisignano.

“Technology fuels almost every aspect of our company,” JPMorgan Chief Administrative Officer Paul Compton said in the statement. “Dana Deasy is an extraordinarily talented executive with outstanding experience.”

Deasy has also been CIO for General Motors Co.’s North America business and Tyco International Ltd., according to the statement.
