Oct. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Centrica Plc, the largest energy supplier to U.K. households and owner of British Gas, appointed Richard Haythornthwaite as non-executive chairman effective Jan. 1. He succeeds Roger Carr.
Haythornthwaite, 56, is chairman of Mastercard Inc., beginning his career as a geologist at BP Plc, the Windsor, England-based company said today in a statement. He worked at Europe’s second-biggest oil company for 17 years before joining Premier Oil Plc and was former chairman of Network Rail Ltd.
He chairs Southbank Centre and was chief executive officer at the industrial technology company Invensys Plc, according to the statement. He studied at Oxford University, it said.
Haythornthwaite will join the board of Centrica as a non-executive director on Oct. 14. Carr is stepping down from Centrica on Dec. 31 to become chairman of the defense contractor BAE Systems Plc.
