Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Manchester United defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the third round of English soccer’s League Cup, as Birmingham eliminated defending champion Swansea 3-1.
Javier Hernandez scored in the second half to send Manchester United into the last 16 of England’s second-tier cup competition. Dan Burn, Matt Green and Tom Adeyemi had the goals in Birmingham’s victory over Swansea.
Arsenal beat West Brom 4-3 in a penalty shootout after the teams drew 1-1, Newcastle defeated Leeds 2-0 and Stoke beat Tranmere 2-0 in tonight’s other third-round matches.
