Sept. 22 (Bloomberg) -- A.J. McCarron threw for 258 yards and one touchdown to lead the top-ranked University of Alabama to its third straight victory 31-6 against Colorado State University in college football.
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel had 244 yards passing and one touchdown and ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns as the Aggies won 42-13 over Southern Methodist at Kyle Stadium in College Station, Texas.
In other games between teams ranked in the Associated Press Writers’ Poll top 10, it was No. 4 Ohio State 76, Florida A&M 0; No. 5 Stanford 42, Arizona State 28; No. 6 Louisiana State 35, Auburn 21; No. 7 Louisville 72, Florida International 0; No. 8 Florida State 54, Bethune-Cook 6; No. 9 Georgia 45, North Texas 21; and No. 10 Texas A&M 42, Southern Methodist 13.
At Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the Crimson Tide (3-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) had a 17-0 halftime lead yesterday on Kenyan Drake’s three-yard run, Dillon Lee’s 15-yard return of a blocked punt and Cade Foster’s 46-yard field goal.
Colorado State’s Jared Roberts narrowed the gap to 17-6 in the third quarter on field goals of 45 and 31 yards before McCarron connected with DeAndrew White on a 30-yard touchdown pass and Chris Black caught a 14-yard scoring pass from Blake Sims.
Garrett Grayson completed 24 of 38 passing attempts for 228 yards for the Rams (1-3).
Manziel, who rushed seven yards twice for touchdowns and passed 16 yards to Malcome Kennedy for a third score, left the game after the first drive in the third quarter.
Ben Malena, who was second to Manziel in rushing with 13 carries for 71 yards, made short bursts of three yards and one yard to add two more touchdowns for the Aggies (3-1, 0-1 SEC).
Garrett Gilbert threw for 310 yards and a touchdown with an interception for SMU (1-2). Chase Hover kicked field goals of 42 and 47 yards.
