Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The following is a roundup of soccer stories from U.K. newspapers, with clickable Internet links.

Cech Out

Barcelona wants to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech to replace Victor Valdes, the Daily Star reported.

Cech, 31, is tempted to leave Stamford Bridge after nine years, and the Blues could replace him with Thibaut Courtois, who is on loan at Atletico Madrid, according to the Star.

Arsenal Striker

Arsenal is close to signing Romanian striker Ciprian Marica, who is a free agent after leaving Schalke, the Daily Mirror reported.

The Gunners missed out on signing Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain in the offseason, the Mirror added.

Given Loan

Aston Villa could loan Shay Given to a Championship team that agrees to subsidize his 3 million-pound ($4.7 million) salary, the Guardian reported.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper hasn’t played in a competitive game for Villa since January after losing his place to Brad Guzan, the Guardian added.

Boro Pair

Middlesbrough wants to take Norwich pair Luciano Becchio and Daniel Ayala on loan after failing to sign them before transfer deadline day, the Daily Express reported.
