Sept. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Israel came from behind to draw 1-1 with Azerbaijan and stay in the running for a berth in the 2014 soccer World Cup.
Itay Schechter scored in the 73rd minute for Israel at Winter Stadium in Ramat Gan. Rahid Amirguliyev had given visting Azerbaijan the lead 12 minutes earlier.
The draw keeps Israel in third place in European Group F with 12 points with three qualifiers remaining. Portugal leads with 17 points, two more than Russia, which hosts Israel in three days.
The winners of the nine European groups qualifies for the World Cup in Brazil, with the best eight runners-up going into a playoff for the remaining four slots.
