Rays Top Yankees 4-2 to Share AL East First Place With Red Sox

Aug. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Evan Longoria and Ben Zobrist each drove in two runs to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees in a Major League Baseball game.

The Rays (74-53) share first place in the American League East with the Boston Red Sox (76-55), who topped the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 last night. The Yankees (68-61) are seven games back in fourth place.

Alex Rodriguez scored in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk by Austin Romine and Vernon Wells reached home on a groundout by Ichiro Suzuki to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Zobrist hit a two-run double to center and then scored on Longoria’s single in the sixth inning as the Rays took a 3-2 advantage. Longoria added a solo home run in the eighth.

David Price (8-5) gave up two runs on five hits and struck out five in six innings. Fernando Rodney recorded his 30th save.

C.C. Sabathia (11-11) surrendered three runs on six hits while striking out seven in 6 1/3 innings.
