A U.S. trade agency said it needs more time to decide whether Samsung Electronics Co. smartphones should be banned from the U.S. based on a patent-infringement claim brought by Apple Inc.

The U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington said it will announce its decision Aug. 9. Apple claims Samsung infringes patents that cover the unique look and features of the iPhone and iPad.
