July 7 (Bloomberg) -- Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes beat out Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel to claim pole position for today’s German Grand Prix.
Britain’s Hamilton had a time of 1 minute, 29.398 seconds at the Nurburgring to take his second consecutive pole and third of the season. Defending world champion Vettel of Germany was one-tenth of a second behind Hamilton.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Lotus teammates Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean rounded out the top-five qualifiers.
Vettel leads the season standings with 132 points after eight of 19 races. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, who qualified eighth yesterday, is second with 111 points, followed by Raikkonen with 98 and Hamilton with 89.
