Brougher previously served as a vice president of sales and operations at Google, focused on small and medium-sized businesses, San Francisco-based Square said today in an e-mailed statement. Before that, she was vice president of business strategy at Charles Schwab & Co.
Founded by Twitter Inc. Chairman and co-founder Jack Dorsey, Square introduced a stamp-size credit-card reader in 2009 that can be used with smartphones and tablets.
Juniper Research estimates that the market for mobile payments for physical goods may top $170 billion in transactions by 2015, up from about $60 billion in 2011.
