April 12 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Islanders beat the host Boston Bruins 2-1 and the Ottawa Senators won 3-1 at the Philadelphia Flyers to strengthen their hold on playoff spots in the National Hockey League’s Eastern Conference.
The Senators (20-14-6) and the Islanders (21-16-4) have 46 points each for the sixth and seventh spots, respectively, in the conference. The New York Rangers (20-16-4) have 44 points for the eighth and last playoff berth.
Josh Bailey scored two goals last night for the Islanders, who host the Rangers tomorrow night.
Tyler Seguin scored a power-play goal in the second period for the Bruins on their home ice at TD Garden. Boston (26-10-4) has 56 points, six behind the Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh Penguins.
The regular season ends April 27, with the Stanley Cup playoffs starting three days later.
