April 7 (Bloomberg) -- Defending champion the Czech Republic clinched a place in the semifinals of tennis’s Davis Cup today after a win by Lukas Rosol.
Rosol defeated Kazakhstan’s Evgeny Korolev 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in Astana to give the visitors an unassailable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five event.
In other quarterfinal ties this weekend, Canada leads Italy 2-1 in Vancouver, Serbia is 2-1 up against the U.S. in Boise, Idaho, and Argentina leads France by the same score in Buenos Aires.
The Davis Cup is the top team event in men’s tennis.
