April 7 (Bloomberg) -- Argentina won yesterday’s doubles match to take a 2-1 lead over France in the Davis Cup quarterfinals, as Kazakhstan avoided elimination against defending champion Czech Republic.
David Nalbandian and Horacio Zeballos beat Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 6-3 to put Argentina in front in the best-of-five matchup in Buenos Aires. Yuriy Schukin and Andrey Golubev beat Radek Stepanek and Jan Hajek 7-6, (7-2), 6-4, 6-3 in Astana, Kazakhstan, to leave the host trailing 2-1.
After the remaining quarterfinals, Serbia has a 2-1 lead over the U.S. and Canada has a 2-1 advantage over Italy.
All four matchups will be decided in today’s two reverse singles matches with the winners advancing to the semifinals of the top team event in men’s tennis.
