March 27 (Bloomberg) -- J.R. Smith came off the bench to score 32 points and Carmelo Anthony added 29 to lead the New York Knicks to a 100-85 win against the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association.
New York won its fifth straight game last night, while Boston lost its fifth in a row. The Knicks were without injured center Tyson Chandler for the seventh consecutive game, while center Kevin Garnett sat out his second game in a row for Boston.
Kenyon Martin and Steve Novak each contributed nine points for the Knicks, who had a 58-44 lead at halftime at TD Garden in Boston. Jeff Green had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Paul Pierce added 16 points for the Celtics.
The Knicks (43-26) are atop the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division, 2 1/2 games ahead of the Brooklyn Nets (41-29). Boston (36-34) holds third place, 7 1/2 games off the lead.
